Listen: The Instant

I got an email a few days back about this band known as The Instant. The Athens, Ohio natives note their influences come from the likes of The Smiths, Velvet Underground, Interpol The Strokes, and Sufjan Stevens - which can clearly be heard in their sound.

Upon first listen, I certainly heard potential. The song “Girls Are Shy” off their debut LP Part-y is very Strokes-esque and enjoyable. The rest of the LP has both high points and low points. At times, some songs tend to drag on. Ultimately, however, the album is a above average listen. Highlights include “The Underachiever” and “The Difference Between a Marriage and Funeral”.

The instrumental and vocal talent is there. It just seems like they have yet to find their own, unique sound. Anyway, since they sent me an email, it would only be appropriate to do a post.

Give them a listen at their Myspace. They also plan on touring in the upcoming months. It will certainly be interesting to see what the future brings.
