Listen: To If By Sea
I originally saw To If By Sea last summer opening for Voxtrot and immediately sensed that I was watching something pretty solid. They weren’t just another generic indie band. With a sound mixing Joy Division and U2 to form a neat, unique post-punk revival style, the Baltimore natives have gained a strong, local following throughout the DC-Baltimore metropolitan area.

They create songs that are both melodic and ferocious. Plus, the exceptional lyrics sung from front man Cris Cowan’s stunning voice only enhances their already dynamic . When listening to their full, powerful, and beautiful music, I felt it reminiscent of The Killers or Interpol. Add this to the fact that no one song sounds the same and you have one quality band.
Despite all of this and two full-length albums, Two If By Sea are still relatively unknown. However, perhaps the fact that their second LP 2007’s Safety has gotten rave reviews from multiple music publications will change all that.
