2007’s Top 50 Albums: #17 - Spirit If…
#17 - Broken Social Scene - Spirit If…

Yes, the album is entitled Broken Social Scene Presents: Kevin Drew’s Spirit If…, but let’s be honest. The album contains just as much of a group collaboration than any of the previous BSS albums. The only time Drew is actually solo is in the album title. That’s not to say that Kevin Drew’s presence on the album is not exceptional. His song-writing and vocals are exemplary. But just as in every BSS album, it’s the sound as a whole that separates the band in a class of their own. Broken Social Scene have the unique ability to change the texture of a song in a moments notice, and they’re the only band who can make softness and loudness equally powerful. The beauty of the band is their ability to together make some of the most impactful music around. And, I’m sure Drew realized this. Why else would there be more cameos than songs? So lets just scrap the whole solo idea…
