2007’s Top 50 Albums: #9 - Writer’s Block
#9 - Peter Bjorn and John - Writer’s Block

In some sense, Writer’s Block is the quintessential pop album. With melodic harmonies, catchy guitar riffs, and love-analyzing lyrics, Peter Bjorn and John created an album with a heart-warming, easy listening sound. But it’s the band’s experimentation that features the addition of synthesizers, steal drums, and the likes of whistling provided by Bjorn Yttling that allow Writer’s Block to become one of the most musically unique albums of the year.
Though highlighted by a vocal appearance by Victoria Bergsman on “Young Folks” and the catchy vocal hooks of “Objects of My Affection,” it’s hard to find any flaw on Writer’s Block. Each of its 11 tracks compliments each other both musically and in upbeat nature, almost as if the album is just one, long pop song. Writer’s Block is so infectious that it has even transcended music lines, as everyone from Kayne West to Girl Talk have sampled it. They got to be doing something right.
