Some notes on my list:

  • Compilation albums and EPs were not included on this list. Only full-length, new albums. Though if I had to recommend some of this year’s best compilation albums, I’d say The Killer’s Sawdust and Elliott Smith’s New Moon. On the EP front, I believe Ra Ra Riot’s debut was the best hands down.
  • I really don’t know much about rap and hip-hop so I believed it would be unfair of me to try to rank them as part of this list. I’ve heard a lot of good stuff like Jay-Z’s American Gangster, but I really didn’t even know here to start when it comes to comparing albums.
  • Probably the two biggest omissions on this list, Lily Allen’s Alright Still and Wilco’s Sky Blue Sky
were pretty much a result of my absentmindedness. Though I wasn’t much a fan of Wilco’s album, I did very much enjoy Allen’s, but didn’t realize until half-way through, that her album had in fact been released in 2007.

I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to read these posts. It was truly a fun thing to do and a great way to jump start CoS into 2008. So please continue to visit daily and spread the word!

  2. I’m not gonna lie and say I’ve heard all these albums (although Wilco does deserve to be up there), but how “Cease to Begin” from Band of Horses isn’t the #1 album is beyond me.
