The Kinks to reunite

The original members of The Kinks are planning to reunite for the first time in nearly four decades for a summer tour in 2008.

The Kinks’ lead singer and guitarist, Ray Davies, said that the band’s original members plan to play together for the first time in nearly four decades.

The original Kinks line-up included Davies’ brother Dave on guitar, Pete Quaife on bass, and Mick Avory on drums. Quaife left the band in 1969, and the band continued with changing line-ups until 1996.

Dave Davies had a stroke, and Pete Quaife now has kidney problems, but according to Ray, both are very keen to get back together for a full reunion.

Davies, 63, said “I spoke to Quaife about a month ago and he dearly wants to make another record with me. I think Dave’s getting better and Mick’s still playing. It would be great to get back together just to see what musical ideas we had and what would happen.”

This possible new studio album would be The Kink’s first since 1996. The tour will likely coincide with the band’s upcoming CD box set release Retrospective.
