Watch: Goldfrapp - “A&E” + more

Goldfrapp has released a video for “A&E,” the first single off the band’s upcoming album Seventh Tree. According to Stereogum and others, the songs title refers to emergency rooms and not the “duh answer,” arts and entertainment.

Seventh Tree sure has been kept under pretty tight wraps. From legals notices pertaining to mp3 postings to the inability to embed “A&E” via youtube,” either record label EMI is trying to build up hype or they’re trying to figure out a way to make as much money as possible after the Radiohead fiasco. However, as of right now, you can stream “A&E” on their myspace and check them out at Coachella in April.

One things for sure. We’ve gotten an early listen of Seventh Tree and we can safely say it will be worth all the hoopla. But until it’s safe, we won’t say anymore.

Update: Shocker! The above video has been deleted. And there doesn’t appear to be another copy of the video anywhere online.

I think Indiewire summed it up best saying, “Mute is in fact doing a great job at kicking Goldfrapp fans in the ass and taking the ruler and slapping it across virtual hands of Goldfrapp fans for posting links to sites that have started the leaks. Fans are starting to get a bad taste in their mouth right now.”

  1. [...] in the sound of the acclaimed duo, the end product is perhaps as mystifying as their efforts to downplay any early press. [...]
