Maybe it is happening…
Yesterday, Perez Hilton reported that a new Coachella-esque event will start up this summer in the east coast. I personally believed the whole thing was bogus. Well, it’s beginning to look like I was wrong and Perez was indeed correct.
Sources say Coachella producers AEG Live/Goldenvoice will stage a summer festival with major headliners at Liberty State Park, just across the Hudson River from lower Manhattan. The event will not carry the Coachella brand.
Liberty State Park has hosted a handful of concerts in recent years, most notably a Radiohead show shortly before the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The new event gives AEG/Goldenvoice a major summer presence in the area, where it will compete with the new Vineland festival.
My head is now officially spinning. As I said yesterday, this festival would take place a few months after Coachella, which would put it around July or August. And yes, that’s the same time as Virgin and Vineland. Add Lollapalooza into the equation, and you potentially have four major music festivals in the span of six weeks.
Um…yea.
