Death Cab For Cutie have plans for 2008

After essentially taking a year off, Death Cab For Cutie return in 2008 with their sixth studio album Narrow Stairs. Due out in the Spring, guitarist Chris Walla recently described the album as somewhat of a “curveball”.

Walla adds that it’s “louder and more dissonant and … I think abrasive would be a good word to use.” A variety of influences factored into the album, he says, including Harmer’s taste for “heavy, sludgy, slow metal” and Walla’s rekindled interest in the synth-punk band Braniac.

Walla released Field Manual, his second solo album, via Barsuk yesterday.

The announcement of Narrow Stairs has spurned a bunch of questions. Is this the real album artwork? Will a band version of “Casino Blues” appear on the album? What about “Ice is Getting Thinner”?

Death Cab currently has only one confirmed date - an appearance at Coachella 2008.
