Led Zeppelin: The morning after…

Last night’s Bonnaroo announcement sure took the energy out of me. However, by the time I called it quits, there was still a pretty big question left unclear…

Are Led Zeppelin headlining Bonnaroo?

We’re still not 100% certain if the Zeppelin rumor is true. But several pieces of information do counter it.

The original source of the rumor, NME, has since published a Bonnaroo related story that states a Led Zeppelin show will not be taking place at this year’s festival.

The much-rumoured performance by Led Zeppelin is not set to take place. However, frontman Robert Plant is slated to perform with Alison Krauss, as is Lez Zeppelin, the all-female Led Zeppelin tribute band.

The AP has also since written a new piece with no mention of Zeppelin.

What more, Ashley Capps, president of Bonnaroo co-organizer A.C. Entertainment, stated in an interview with The Tennessean that the British legends won’t be playing.

When asked outright, Capps denied that the band would make a surprise appearance. “Believe me, if Zeppelin was going to be there we would be shouting it from the rooftops,” he said, adding that no one would be more surprised than him and his team if the band did perform.

But then again, there are still articles from several major publications, Forbes, Sound Generator, PR-Inside, are all still reporting whether a Zeppelin headliner. Whether, they are just posting based on the original NME article or their own sources is not known.

Yet even with all this contradicting information, a few Bonnaroo-related items do seem to indicate a Led Zeppelin appearance. Ticket prices are higher and the band has never denied an appearance at the farm. In fact, Plant recently said at a Knicks game, “you never know what is around the corner.” Furthermore, Billboard, which reported almost a month ago that Metallica and Zeppelin would be headlining, did get one right… So where did the info about Zeppelin come from?

There’s also the possibility that Superfly and A.C. are protecting against a quick sell-out and ticket scalping by withholding a Led Zeppelin confirmation.

In conclusion, what do we know? Nothing for sure. There’s still too much conflicting information. But I am getting the sense that a Led Zeppelin headline may be in the realm of possibility. No one wants you to no though…

  1. If Zeppelin was really playing they wouldn’t have a ticket system that allows for scalping and would go the Glastonbury route.

  2. Because Forbes is where i look to for my music information. As much as everyone wishes zeppelin was playing, it’s just not true.

  3. fuck NME, those lying assholes.

  4. You could never go the Glastonbury route in America. It would absolutely alienate fans of the festival.

  5. keeping tickets in the hands of people actually going to bonnaroo is a fantastic idea. glasto’s ticket service wins awards with personalized passes. preventing bums from re-selling hyped tickets. think rage tickets coach07 $$$. and you get a cool souvenir!
