Billy Joel to close Shea Stadium
Shea Stadium, the home of the New York Mets for nearly 45 years, will officially clos
e it’s doors at the end of the 2008 baseball season. Today, it was revealed that New York native Billy Joel will be the final musical act to perform at the stadium.
Billy Joel will be the last artist to play at New York’s Shea Stadium with a July 16 concert billed as “The Last Play at Shea, From the Beatles to Billy.” The show comes in the midst of the New York Mets’ final season at Shea; the team moves into its new home at Citi Field in 2009.
Tickets will go on sale February 16.
Joel performed at Yankees Stadium in 1991. He will be the first artist to have played both stadiums.
Other notables musicians/groups to have graced Shea include the Beatles, the Who, Bruce Springsteen, The Clash and the Rolling Stones…
The Beatles @ Shea Stadium, 1965
The Clash @ Shea Stadium, 1982
The Who @ Shea Stadium, 1982
Bruce Springsteen @ Shea Stadium, 2003
I have to say though, as a Mets fan, I’m more excited over the news of Johan Santana.

If you like Billy Joel, you might really appreciate the parody I wrote of We didnt start the fire.
