Kanye West, Daft Punk play Grammys

Well, it’s officially over. The 2008 edition of the Grammys has now come and gone. And by far the best moment of the night was Kayne West’s surprise live performance with Daft Punk…

Apparently it was Daft Punk’s first ever television appearance…

P.S. Where was the Michael Jackson performance? More videos, thoughts, and analysis tomorrow.

The iconic and critically acclaimed French duo Daft Punk made a surprise appearance at the 50th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night. For their first ever television performance, they teamed up with Kanye West to perform his 2007 smash hit “Stronger”, which samples the group’s 2001 single “Harder Better Faster Stronger” from their landmark album Discovery. For the Grammy Awards, Daft Punk and Kanye West performed an original version of “Stronger” they created specifically for this event, marking Daft Punk’s only television performance in the 14 year history of the band.

  1. At the beginning people are totally making the pyramid sign with their hands :D

  2. OMG, totally the most awesome performance of the night. Mostly because Daft Punk just kicks ass.

  3. Daft punk it’s great, one more time the best hit!!!

  4. The “Stronger” performance was great… I wish I didn’t hate Kanye, who thinks the world revolves around him. You have MAMA shaved into your head. You just sang a song about your mother. It was nice. Now you need to stop the Grammy music in order to AGAIN thank your mother??

  5. As much as I like daft punk, anyone remember when Prodigy “killed” techno? I’m getting the same feeling. At least daft punk has the sense to appear very very rarely and incognito. What’s next, Hawtin / Dixie Chicks split EP?

God though I remember that song was killer five years ago. I’m so torn by this.

  7. That performance was awesome! But I kinda wish he performed “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.” I think a performance of that song would’ve been more powerful.

  8. The performance was great. I heard it this morning on the radio… whaouu!

  9. Daft Punk put on the best live performance I have ever seen at Lollapalooza 2007. It was nothing short of magical. The good feelings were swirling ubiquitously that night. Seriously, all commentary thus far shows that these people have not seen them live.

I am very interested in the ‘prop’ that was the screen they were pressing. I do not think that was really producing music… was it? They really are a spectacular music entity and I wish them the best. Keep bringing us the greatness Daft Punk!

  10. It was a Lemur, they used it to control offboard computers/synthesizers/etc. It looked pretty authentic to me. You can pull of touch screens with the right gloves, and it would be a bit much to practice faking it when you could just keep the camera away from your hands instead.

And to the one who said Daft Punk might do the same thing as The Prodigy and “ruin techno”…techno isn’t ruined. They revolutionized a genre and make awesome music. How is that a bad thing?
