Radiohead, Jack Johnson to play another festival
I thought I wouldn’t have to deal with any more big news tonight, but thanks to the fine folks in
San Francisco, we have another new festival to talk about…
Today an industry source confirmed the headliners for what will be called the “Outside Lands Festival” in Golden Gate Park August 22-24 will be Radiohead, Tom Petty, and Jack Johnson. The order of headliners each night is still unknown. Tickets are not on sale yet. The source, who operates outside the festival organization and who requested anonymity, says the massive four-stage, 160,000-person inaugural Festival represents a huge coup for local promoting powerhouse Another Planet Entertainment (in conjunction with Superfly), as well as a major boost to San Francisco’s festival profile.
Superfly are the folks behind Bonnaroo and Vegoose. What is it with Jack Johnson already? He must have some pretty revealing photographs of some higherups…
SF Weekly goes on to detail the evidence backing up the claim…
1) Size. According to government documents, APE expects up to 160,000-people over 8.22-24 in GG Park the week before Burning Man for a “major headliner”.
2) Timing. The first two dates of the proposed event, Friday Aug. 22 and Sat. Aug. 23 come just a day before Radiohead is rumored to be playing L.A. on 8.24 and 8.25.
4) Politics. Radiohead cares about carbon-neutral touring, and wants to site its shows at places where you don’t necessarily need a car to get there; like GGP.
5) Experience. APE has booked Radiohead before, and they’ve booked the Park before. They are the best and the brightest in the Bay, and if anyone could do it, it’s them.
More as it comes…

Radiohead said about bonnaroo that they had a great time and would like to do more festivals..as for jack who the hell knows, and for having Tom Petty and Radiohead headline the festival is a little redudant, since they headlined Bonnaroo 06…160,000 is way to fuckin many people…Festivals are being fueled by consumerism nowdays it seems, look at all the festies that popped up this year, they should calm down
Possibly. I never thought I’d put both Radiohead and Jack Johnson in the same category, but both are turning out to be festival whores…
Interesting. Radiohead is now playing 2 US Festivals in the second leg of the North American tour, (APW and now this.)
Any chances that they are just gonna play a ton of festivals?
160,000?
Holy Crap.
