Where are all those Virgin Fest rumors?

Where are the rumors for this year’s U.S. version of the Virgin Mobile Festival? This has probably been one of our most asked question over the last week or so. After all, the dates have been announced (August 9-10, 2008) and its European counterpart, V Festival, has already confirmed Muse as a headliner.

Lets take a shot at answering the question…

David Malitz over at the Washington Post’s Post Rock music blog recently offered his Virgin Fest predictions, which featured the likes of the Foo Fighters, Feist, the B-52’s, and Wilco…

We think the Foo Fighters are a pretty safe bet. They have a pretty strong history of attendance at past Virgin events (most recently at the V Festival in 2007) and will likely be touring the U.S. in July and August.

As for Feist? Malitz offers this explanation for the prediction…

Like the Foos, her upcoming tour finds her with New York and Philadelphia shows (also Charlottesville) but nothing any closer to us. By the time August rolls around it will have been more than a year since her last Washington show and almost a year since she played at Rams Head Live in Baltimore. Since then she’s become a true breakout star, big enough to be a major draw at a festival.

Makes sense, plus the folks behind Virgin seem to favor female performers. Amy Winehouse, Regina Spektor, and CSS were all at last year’s festival.

As for other possibilities? Well, Muse seems realistic, especially since they are already confirmed for V Festival. Plus, an announcement of a world tour is likely coming soon

There will also be some overlap with the Lollapalooza’s and All Point West’s lineups, meaning bands like Cat Power, Kings of Leon, Bloc Party, and Flogging Molly could all be potential acts at Virgin.

The newly reunited Stone Temple Pilots and Rage Against the Machine, who were originally supposed to be at the now postponed Vineland festival, could also be considered as realistic options.

And then there are those acts that are popping up at nearly every U.S. festival this summer, such as M.I.A. and The Racontouers. We wouldn’t at all be shocked to see them gracing the beautiful green fields of Pimlico this summer as well.

So there you go…

Hope this satisfies your impatience…at least temporarily.
