Nine Inch Nails release new album (redux)
Last night, Trent Reznor self-released his newest Nine Inch Nail’s album Ghosts I-IV. Though we
along with many other outlets deemed the move as “pulling a radiohead,” the release of the album via the internet is nothing new for the creative mind behind Nine Inch Nails.
Reznor has long been a critic of major record labels. While Ghosts marks his first independent release, Reznor also recently helped produce and release Saul William’s (free) album The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!
And from the looks of the internet buzz and traffic, like Radiohead, Reznor’s move looks to be paying off. What more, the diehards will likely eat up the deluxe editions of the album when they are released in May.
For those NIN fans waiting for the traffic to die down, how about we look at what others are saying?
Pitchfork shared some more inner details about the album…
In addition to Reznor, the album features musical contributions from Brian Viglione (the drummer from the Dresden Dolls), producer Alan Moulder (who has worked with NIN before, as well as My Bloody Valentine, the Smashing Pumpkins, Depeche Mode, the Jesus and Mary Chain, and many others), producer Atticus Ross (NIN, Korn, P!nk), Alessandro Cortini (NIN, modwheelmod), and legendary guitarist Adrian Belew (Bowie, Zappa, King Crimson, Tom Tom Club).
Also, Hypebot has details about Reznor’s uploading of Ghosts onto Pirate Bay, Thrill Peer deems the move the “latest development in the lableless release wars,” and the LA Times has a stream of the album.
