Lollapalooza pre-sale soon?

The Lollapalooza 2008 pre-sale will take place anytime between now and tomorrow afternoon. In other words, it will be your opportunity to obtain those highly coveted $60 three-day pass.

Only problem is that the pre-sale can happen at anytime, and the limited amount of tickets will likely go quite quickly. Your best bet is to keep checking Lollapalooza.com. We’d like to wish you good luck, but we want to get our hands on a few of these “gold tickets” as well…

I guess this means Lollapalooza won’t be cancelled, contrary to what someone else was reporting

Speaking of Lollapalooza, the John Butler Trio and the Cool Kids are the latest confirmations for this year’s festival.

  1. My cache wasn’t reset, so i never saw the new section pop up.

  2. Wew… Gots mine!!! Tickets already sold out. I wouldn’t have known to look for the tickets if I hadn’t read this article. Thanks, Alex!

  3. Oh and IndieRockCafe,

We were just pulling your leg. We like you guys quite a bit too.

  4. Yep it is now. We got our tickets!

  5. Lolla announces their lineup in April every year, right before Coachella. The early bird tickets go onsale before headliners are announced. This is exactly the same as the last two years. They have a few things going for them though.

    1. They do hold the option to pull bands that gain momentum from SXSW.

    2. Most festivals this year have dropped the ball with lineup, and people are waiting to decide. (at least I know I am)

    3. Lolla is not a camping festival, and though they expect some people to travel to it, Chicago is large and diverse enough to get 70,000 out there over the weekend. Most friends of mine that live in Chicago just expect to do Lolla, even if they go somewhere else, since it is so convenient for them to go to.

  6. Presale on sale now!!!

  7. Hey there:

Contrary to your article, I was not stating that Lolla would be canceled (even though the fact is it has been before due to poor ticket sales).

Instead, I raised the prospect that it could be canceled. Someone on the ‘inside’ said organizers are worried about low ticket sales for many reasons, as I explained in the article. Most other fests for 2008 have had their lineups and ticket sales out for weeks or months. Lolla has only announced a date.

Additionally, pre-sales are often a way that organizers measure the enthusiasm for the event itself. This is probably a bad mistake on their part (esp this year with two new big fests in eastern US, not to mention those in Canada).

Not announcing even one headline artist only leads to a logic question of why?. Further, I know dozens of of people who have already forgotten Lolla for this year and opted for other fests during the same first week in August, because they needed to make their plans (plans, rides, accommodations, time off work requests, etc.) now, not whenever Lolla decides if it’s going to have a lineup at all.

Of course the $60 pass is tantalizing, but as you point out, the terms around it are suspiciously absent, and fuzzy at best. I can bet you that the pre-sale ticket special will determine what bands headline Lolla, esp. since many of the ‘big fest acts’ are already booked for that weekend.

But most importantly, presale tickets for a major festival that hasn’t officially announced one single artist hints at another piece of a strange puzzle - why hasn’t there been one confirmed artist announced (it’s March) for Lollapalooza?

Therefore, I wouldn’t be suprised, but I’m not hoping it happens, if Lolla is canceled or seriously watered-down for 2008.

P.S. I happen to like your blog; I just wanted to set the record straight. :D
