The B-52s have plans for 2008

Move over REM! Look out Widespread Panic! The legendary, quirky and overtly catchy kings of the original Athens, Georgia scene, The B-52s, are back. For the first time since 1992’s Good Stuff, and the temporary departure of singer Cindy Wilson, the band will be releasing new material.

According to the band’s website, the new album titled Funplex is scheduled to be released in Europe on March 24th and in the States on March 25th. The band released “Funplex” the self titled first single off the album on iTunes back on January 29th as a digital download only. Remixes of the song by Peaches, CSS and Scissor Sisters are to follow, as well as a physical release.

The band also has two upcoming U.S. tours booked in support of the album. The first one is the Funplex Club Tour which runs April 23rd through May 11th and the other is the True Colors Tour featuring Cyndi Lauper, Rosie O’Donnell and Tegan & Sara which lasts May 31st through July 5th.

The B-52s are back in control no doubt. And yes, they officially dropped the apostrophe.
