Axis of Justice return for… justice.

As if guitarist Tom Morello didn’t have enough on his plate, he’s decided to put together his heavy handed supergroup, Axis of Justice, for some shows in 2008. For those that aren’t familiar, Axis of Justice is a side project formed with System of a Down’s Serj Tankian. The two put the band together to promote political idealism across the nation, as if their own respective bands didn’t do that enough, right?

Morello describes the goal of the events as “musicians, fans of music and grass roots activist organizations working together to fight for social justice. We tend to do that and have a great time, too. It’ll be a cool variety of musicians going to different places and not only playing shows. It will benefit specific good causes, whether it’s supporting anti-war efforts or supporting Iraq Veterans Against the War or repairing destroyed New Orleans.”

Morello, always one for politics, must enjoy second or third helpings. Between his gig with the reunited Rage Against the Machine and his solo efforts under The Nightwatchman, you’d think he’d have enough platforms to rally on. Given it’s election year, and an important election at that, it’s understandable.

Dates and more information to follow in the coming weeks, but Morello and Tankian plan on rolling this out before summer. Need to brush up on your politics and literature?
