Langerado 2008: Day 3 Recap
Day three of this year’s Langerado Music Festival has now come and gone. While video and pictures are a bit hard to come by, we still have a mini recap for all those folks who couldn’t make it down to Florida this weekend.
R.E.M. headlined Saturday night’s festivities…
“We’re R.E.M.,” Michael Stipe said, charmingly leaning on his mic stand, “and this is what we do.”
Of course, the word “this” could mean anything, but in the case of Athens, Ga.’s college rock titans R.E.M. and their chilly Saturday night visit to the Langerado Music Festival, “this” could be defined as:
- Spinning out the hits (”Man On The Moon”, “Bad Day,” “Fall On Me”) as well as some tasty new tunes (”Horse To Water,” “I’m Gonna DJ,” “Supernatural Super Serious”) that combined the band’s strengths (infectious, singable melodies suitable for two-part yell-alongs in the car with your friends) and with a new energy that made some of their more recent efforts frustrating hit-or-misses; - Keeping the audience going with Stipe’s most congenial stage patter, during which he checked on the well-being of the shivering audience members and helpfully suggested they “find someone to rub up against…and populate this great state of Florida;” - Sharing their political and activist leanings, from Stipe’s bright green “Obama” t-shirt and his wish for candidates who “give me hope” rather than “tell me what to fear.”

Despite the rain storm Friday night, the wind storm Sat afternoon, and the cold temps sat night, REM wa still able to rawk.
Disco Biscuits were incredible,and the Lee Boys were a great compliment to the late night scene.
