Listen: Rumorz

Samuel Adams embodied the true spirit of American patriotism. In 1773, he led the colonial American revolt against the British-imposed Tea Act. This event, dubbed the Boston Tea Party, single handedly sparked what eventually became the American Revolution against the British. In present day, Samuel Adams lives in historic folklore, tasty award winning beers and the unbound blood of true American patriotism. His patriotism, integrity, pride for his homeland and overall iconic status has spread to other parts of the country and there’s no doubt it has touched base with Greg Perry, a.k.a “Rumorz.”

The Stoughton, MA native has been tearing up the rap scene for over six years and has become quite popular in the New England circuit. Since 2005, Rumorz has been composing his own music as well as collaboration projects. On his Myspace, he has racked up quite a positive reaction, exerting a strong level of personal integrity.

His bio sounds more like a battle cry than it does a description of a man who’s on a mission. Here it states that “while most rappers continue to fall into the trap of “Ringtone rap”, Rumorz is one of the few artists who continue to make real music in the hip-hop community.

From song topics such as Reality TV shows, board games, and even comparing rappers to politicians, Rumorz has been successfully defending the art of Hip Hop/Rap by continuing to create innovative tracks.” On jams such as “Hard Times (How You Livin’)”, Rumorz uses intelligent lyrics to paint images of South Boston on a hot summer day (and it gets pretty hot there!). The production behind his lyrics is nothing short of great, while the music is quite hypnotic. Rumorz has that rare gift to appeal to mass audiences, especially those who scoff down on rap music.

His other jams which include “Crying”, “Droppin’ Names” and “What’s It Gonna Be” follow in this same tough Irish Southie summer day aspect. You can literally feel the shamrocks, bricks and shenanigans hitting you in the face, all behind a four-on-the-floor beat.

Rumorz has also been receiving a bit of attention in the sports world as well. He contributed a song for the Boston Celtics that at one point was to be used for last year’s post Christmas Lakers/Celtics game in Boston. While his song, “This Is Boston”, didn’t play during the telecast, it sent some shock waves through the community, only making Rumorz’s reputation that much stronger.

Sources, such as hip hop experts D. Scribez of Boston Hip Hop Pages and 730 of Hiphopgame.com, have given Rumorz strong praise and push for his work. This might explain his ongoing productions. Even now, he is in the midst of recording a second mixtape alongside some work with Boston legend DJ Saki.

In this day and age where mediocrity is the norm and music is in danger of conforming to unthinkable consequences, Rumorz resembles the rise of the phoenix in rap. His plight for integrity as well as his fight for true honesty in the genre of rap only fuels his desires to excel that much more. Hopefully someday, when the current trends of rap burn and perish, Rumorz will be there to lead the way and somewhere, Samuel Adams is smiling and having a pint on Greg Perry.

Well, maybe…
