Jam on the River 2008

The 23rd annual Jam on the River music festival will take between May 23 and 25 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Obviously, the date on the poster is wrong. Dead Confederate is also apparently playing. Tickets go on sale this Saturday via Livenation.com.

From Friday, May 23 through Sunday, May 25, your weekend will be jam-packed with music from THE FLAMING LIPS, THE AVETT BROTHERS, BASSNECTAR, local favorites DISCO BISCUITS and more! Besides lining up brand-new acts, other firsts are taking place this year to create the ultimate JOTR experience: The late-night shows are now at BOTH Electric Factory and Fillmore at the TLA!

Saturday on the Waterfront, The Flaming Lips are headlining Day 1. Known for their lush, multi-layered, psychedelic arrangements and original lyrics, The Lips are finally making a return to Philly for their first JOTR appearance. Once they hit the stage, you’ll understand why Q magazine named them one of the “50 Bands to See Before You Die.”Accompanying The Flaming Lips on Day 1 is Philly-based DJ/producer and overall Hip-Hop production wizard RJD2, genius song crafter Josh Ritter and back from his epic performance at New Year’s Eve at the Susquehanna Bank Center is Bassnectar, bringing his booty-shaking, sub-bass/intoxicating rhythms!

Hometown heroes and JOTR vets the Disco Biscuits are once again headlining Day 2 of the music festival. But, before they hit the stage Sunday night, The Biscuits will serve up two sets of full-blown, mind bending and fist-pumping “trance-fusion” rhythms at Electric Factory Saturday night to keep the party going until the wee hours of the morning with a late-night show.Kicking off the festivities on Sunday is Tom Hamilton and his American Babies, co-staring Joe Russo and Scott Metzger. Then, Philly’s electronic-jam sensations Lotus keep the good vibes flowing throughout the day as the fivesome take the stage for their second JOTR. Straight out of Concord, North Carolina come Scott and Seth Avett, better known as the Avett Brothers. They are treating the Penn’s Landing crowd to a set of their memorizing three-part harmonies and fresh blend of soulful-indie-bluegrass — you have to see it to believe it! Finally, Deadmau5 (pronounced “deadmouse”) comes to JOTR for his first appearance in Philly. Deadmau5 is setting the DJ world on fire as of late with his full-on electro-house beats as one of the most notable producer/DJ’s around.

The festivities begin this year on Friday, May 23 – a night earlier than usual – with live electronica phenoms The New Deal headlining our first Jam On The River Kick-Off Party at the Fillmore at the TLA. The jam-packed weekend concludes Sunday, May 27 with a choice of two killer shows: the ultimate Grateful Dead tribute band, Dark Star Orchestra, at Electric Factory and Conspirator & RJD2 getting down at Fillmore at the TLA!
