Metallica plan to release new album in September 2008
During a recent appearance on Bruce Dickinson’s radio show, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich
reported that the band’s highly anticipated, upcoming, and currently untitled ninth studio album will see a release in September.
“We’re just finishing up a record, we’ve got six weeks left and it should be out in September, that’s the idea right now.”[Ulrich] added: “I like what I’ve heard so far. I’m not one of the great sellers of ‘the new record’s the best thing we’ve ever done and it shits all over the last record and it’s way heavier’. I’m not a great believer in all that horseshit.”
Given that it’s been over five years since the controversial, yet Grammy-award winning release of St. Anger, Metallica is fanning the flames of this release quite rapidly.
Ulrich also recently commented on the sound of the new material in Revolver Magazine: There’s a lot of light and shade in these songs. There’s heavy, fast, nutty stuff, and then there’s some slowdowns and musical interludes.”He went on to note that the newer material sounds more like the …And Justice For All era of Metallica than their previously recent efforts, such as Load.
There’s no doubt that the kings of heavy metal have the world by the balls at this moment. Rarely nowadays is a CD release been so enthusiastically hyped, mainly due to file-sharing and other formats. Regardless, Metallica’s newest release should certainly send metalheads kicking down the doors of every record store to grab a copy of the soon-to-be titled album. They truly are the Masters Of Puppets.

Someone I know brought in a demo copy of the some of the new songs. The kind of sound like they would fit in between ride the lightning and puppets. Slayer has been putting out good stuff, along with megadeth, testament, priest. Why not metallica but don’t expect fuel part two godsmack fans.
I notice a lot of hype and hurt about the buzz of this new Metallica album…
what I don’t see is what everyone isn’t willing to note:
Metallica has even the nay-sayers curious
The flame they have been fanning is tentatively working its way down the line of fans old and new, and I think that no matter what happens, people will buy this ‘untitled ninth album’.
Why? Because bad publicity is STILL publicity!
Any Metallica “fan” who is doubting the band or lost interest because of St. Anger and don’t think the new album is going to be anything less than amazing are full of shit and will really regret saying anything negative about the new album or doubting the quality of it. Metallica will be back in a big way once this album is out and anyone who has ever said anything less is going to have to eat their words come september, or whenever the album does come out. Metallica is easily one of the greatest bands of all time and be prepared for that point to be emphasized when the new album comes out.
That’s a good thought Justin. That could be a reason, but given the band’s hardships within the last few years (Newstead leaving the band, switching producers from Rock to Rubin, Hetfield’s rehab stint, etc) I think the band just needed some well deserved time off from kicking ass.
2008 has been a great year for music so far and I’m honestly stoked for this album. I can’t wait to hear it!
Has anybody given the thought that perhaps the reason the Metal Kings[Metallica] has delayed the release of the album to September, might be to improve the technOlogy that stops albums being copied, hey it’s just a thought. What I mean by that is it actually STOPS the pirates out there dead in their tracks by making the cd unplayable after attempting to copy tracks so they put them on file sharing networks. Like I said it is just a thought.
metallica would kick your ass if they read your comment
oh and caleb. go back to listen to your dj shitty.
they are one of the best bands to listen to live. go make a band and see if you make it anywhere, doub tyou will, probably sing about how you fucked ur life up.
shut the fuck up Metallica rule soo go to hell and they are not dead actualy you will be if you carry on and there songs are not horrible ans sam well said
Hole they dug? where have you been. open your mind you one sided bitch. they have done a wide range, proen themselves as ledgends of rock metal and are more thna worthy to be labelled the big 4. go get a life nobs
honestly, if people are gonna dog metallica, fine be closed minded nazis, pricks.
they need to do something amazing to pull them out of this whole they’ve dug. i still cant beleive they are on the bill at festivals this year.
Well I agree that St. Anger was pretty well below expectations, the new album does sound promising.
The songs you heard on youtube most likely were probably not included on this album, as I have heard them and they aren’t too great either. We’ll see how they go.
Anyone who saw the film ‘Some Kind of Monster’ knows that Metallica is dead and gone.
I heard a few of the new songs from the new record on youtube a year or two ago, they were horrible.
