Velvet Revolver close to breaking up?

As we first mentioned last month, the announcement of a Stone Temple Pilots reunion brought much speculation that a break up of Velvet Revolver would soon follow. However, all remained quiet for over a month, and the band even continued their European tour. That was, until last week…

According to several media and fan accounts, [Scott] Weiland told the sold-out crowd [at Thursday's show in Glasgow] that they were “watching something special … the last tour by Velvet Revolver.” At least one account of the evening’s proceedings suggests Weiland’s revelation was news to the rest of the band; the tour concludes on April 1 in the Netherlands.

“[Guitarist] Slash, [bassist] Duff [McKagan], [drummer] Matt [Sorum] and [guitarist] Dave [Kushner] all looked at each other. …

[MTV]

Sorum responded to the comments with a rather personal attack toward the band’s frontman, which promoted a reaction by Weiland that casted even further doubt on the band’s future…

“As for our fans — I will sweat, bruise, and bleed for you. And will continue to do so until the end of this tour. However, you deserve to hear Velvet Revolver playing … not certain individuals singing along to get a muddied up sound. God forbid — could one imagine if I grabbed a guitar and started soloing along with Slash? That would never happen because I know my place. It’s a shame … we were a gang. But ego and jealousy can get the better of anyone. I wish the best and plan to annihilate the stage in the last few shows.”

[Blabbermouth]

Where does this leave the state of Velvet Revolver? Well, nothing is official, but the situation is certainly awkward. After all, the band is using blogs to communicate with one another. We can’t imagine this will last much longer…

  1. GLAD WEILAND DROPPED THOSE SAPS. EVERYTIME SOMETHING WENT WRONG, THE WORLD WOULD BLAME SCOTT- SCOTT’S SUCH A JUNKIE. YET HE WAS CLEAN FOR ALMOST 4 YEARS WHEN HE RELAPSED (WITH THE HELP OF HIS “FRIENDS/BAND MATES”) IN nOVEMBER. MEANWHILE, QUIETLY, SLASH, DUFF, AND MATT HAVE ALL BEEN IN REHAB FOR VARIOUS NARCOTICS. THOUGH SCOTT ALWAYS HAD TO TAKE THE HEAT. THEY JUST THREW HIM UNDER THE BUS. NEVER ONCE DID HE BRING UP THE OTHER GUYS PERSONAL LIVES IN INTERVIEWS. YET THEY CONSTANTLY WERE REFERENCING HOW HIS HEALTH WAS. THAT, AND THE FACT THAT SLASH HAD BEEN IN COMMUNICATION FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS WITH STEVEN ADLER ABOUT HOW TO GET AXL TO REFORM GNR. THEY WOULD’VE DROPPED SCOTT ALMOST AS FAST AS HE DROPPED THEM. HE BEAT THEIR WASHED UP ASSES TO PUNCH. tHAT’S TWO SINGERS TO DUMP THOSE THREE (3 FOR SORUM IF U COUNT THE CULT, AND THE FACT THAT HE DIDN’T EVEN GET INVITED TO A COURTESY JAM ON THEIR RECENT TOUR). MAYBE THE WORLD NEEDS TO LOOK IN THE OTHER DIRECTION THIS TIME, AND ACCEPT THAT SCOTT’S DOING THE RIGHT THING. FOR ONCE GIVE HIM THE CREDIT OF BEING ON THE MORAL HIGH GROUND. HE COULD HAVE EASILY STAYED IN VR AND KEPT GETTING HIGH. INSTEAD HE’S BACK WITH STP, WHERE HE KNOW’S THEY WON’T TOLERATE THAT GARBAGE…IT’S PRETTY OBVIOUS TO ME THE MAN WANTS TO CHANGE HIS LIFE. I GUESS HE’S HEADING THE ADVICE I’M SURE HE HEARD IN REHAB ABOUT “PEOPLE, PLACES, AND THINGS”, AND HE’S REALLY TAKING HEED!

  2. Velvet Revolver is good, but let’s face it. (Old) Guns N’ Roses is great and Stone Temple Pilots rivaled Seattle in the grunge department.

It would be great for Weiland and Co. to pick up where they left off with “Sour Girl” & “Heaven & Hot Rods” and for the the rest of GNR to kick some ass and raise some hell again. We only need it nowadays.

  3. [...] team that’s worked with Velvet Revolver, featuring the original Guns. Let’s not forget the rumors revolving around that band. This could get exciting, but let’s not get too overjoyed yet. [...]
