Virgin Festival reveals headliners

Virgin Festival reveals headliners

The U.S. version of the Virgin Mobile Festival has revealed the headliners for its 2008 lineup. No real surprises, that is aside from Mr. Kanye West

Virgin Mobile Festival (Baltimore) takes between August 9 and 10 at the Pimlico Race Track in Maryland.  The full lineup is expected to be announced in the coming days.

Virgin Group Founder and Chairman Sir Richard Branson announced the headliners during a keynote at the 2008 CTIA Wireless convention in Las Vegas. He said the rest of the two-day lineup and additional information about the event will be announced in the coming weeks.

Kyocera Wireless will again be the handset partner and premiere sponsor of Virgin Mobile Festival. In Vegas, Branson also debuted Virgin Mobile USA’s “Virgin Mobile Festival Special Edition Wild Card” handset from Kyocera, which will be available exclusively at Best Buy this summer.

Fans who purchase the phone will receive festival-inspired content as well as other additional benefits.

The other big surprise? No Muse?!?

How does this stack up with the other editions of Virgin? Compare for yourself…

  1. thats good so far but I want Oasis and Rage against the machine added. With them makes Virgin the greatest festival maybe ever!

  2. Oasis will Definitely not be added, there date in Seattle is being advertised as being there first show, and that date is after Virgin. And with this top heavy lineup, I highly doubt Rage will be there.

  3. As for me, I think I will stick with Lolla, NIN will be at both. I would like to check out Foo and Kanye, but those aren’t do or die for me.

  4. Sorry for the third comment in a row buuuut, I could still see Muse Being added. As we stand we have 5 major acts, and its a two day festival. I think we may see Muse added to make it 6 big acts, three per day.

  5. Jackass Johnson stop ruining people’s festivals.

  6. Agreed that Muse could be a late addition. Me, I’m waiting to see if the Raconteurs get tacked on there as well. I will agree with Luke though–while I want to catch the Foos and Kanye quite badly, I don’t want to have to sit through Jack Johnson unless there’s something REALLY DAMN GOOD on the second stage.

  7. pissed no RATM. I have to go though, Foo Fighters. I would love to see Muse, Daft and Raconteurs added to the show.

  8. only thing that could save this is daft

  9. gogol bordello confirmed

  10. dude i sure would love to see muse live……..

  11. Raconteurs were there in 2006 for the first ever V-Fest. What’s the likelihood they’d come back to do it again? Then again in 06 the festival was only 1 day and didn’t draw nearly the crowd it did last year. I’d be stoked to see them come back but do bands usually go back to the same festival year after year?

  12. Daft is 100% NOT playing this. They’re not touring at all next year - they’re working on a new show for their next tour, which will be at the absolute very earliest but unlikely, 2009.

It would be really cool to see a few other big acts thou. Metallica, Pearl Jam, RATM would all be great additions.

  13. [...] word on their validity, the revealed lineup seems quite plausible. Aside from Kanye West, all the currently announced headliners, and other confirmations appearing on our Virgin Festival outlook page [...]
