Weiland leaves Velvet Revolver

***Updated***

Well, it had to end sometime. Velvet Revolver is parting ways with Scott Weiland. The twist? The band still plans to continue. So, those still hoping and holding out for a Guns N’ Roses reunion, to go along with the upcoming Stone Temple Pilots reformation, will have to remain stranded, at least if what Slash is saying holds any merit.

“This band is all about its fans and its music and Scott Weiland isn’t 100% committed to either,” Slash reportedly said (the group’s split with Weiland was confirmed by Sanctuary management). “Among other things, his increasingly erratic onstage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on.”

Just yesterday Slash was quoted as saying the band will make a third album with or without Weiland, insisting, “We don’t know how or when but the core four guys will continue.”

Does this really come off as some sort of surprise, though? Given that the band’s already a throwback to that 1980’s metal sound, Weiland’s departure and the idea of a new singer sounds fitting. It kind of reminds me of that Mark Wahlberg movie a couple of years back, you remember, right? Rock Star? It’s always on VH1 Classic. No? Here’s a scene to refresh your memory. I guess this is a vague representation of what Slash and the boys will be up to over the next few months.

Weiland, however, is not so happy. Just this morning, he responded to his former band mates, where as Glenn Frey used to say, “the heat is on.” The rattled frontman has always been known for his outlandish commentary and this time is no exception. Here’s just some of what he had to add.

“After reading the comment by Duff [McKagan, bassist], Matt [Sorum, drummer], Dave [Kushner, guitarist] and the illustrious Guitar Hero, Saul Hudson, a.k.a. Slash, I find it humorous that the so called four ‘founding members’ of Velvet Revolver, better known to themselves as ‘the Project’ before I officially named the band, would decide to move on without me after I had already claimed the group dead in the water on March 20 in Glasgow.”

And he’s just getting started…

“In response to Slash’s comment regarding my commitment, I have to say it is a blatant and tired excuse to cover up the truth. The truth of the matter is that the band had not gotten along on multiple levels for some time. On a musical level, there were moments of joy, inspiration, fun… at times, but lets not forget the multiple trips to rehab every member of the band had taken (with the exception of one member, no need to mention his name).”

“I think Sebastian Bach would be a fantastic choice,” he mocks.

Well we know who Weiland suggests, but who do you think should be the next frontman?
