Jim DeRogatis leaks Lollapalooza lineup

Jim DeRogatis apparently couldn’t wait until April 7. The Chicago Sun-Times staff writer has apparently leaked this year’s Lollapalooza lineup…

“Art-rock giants Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, the reunited Rage Against the Machine, Jack White’s side project the Raconteurs and hometown heroes Wilco and Kanye West will headline the main stages on Aug. 1-3.

The Raconteurs, Wilco and West will each be making their second appearance at the reinvented destination festival. Other repeaters among the more than 100 acts on this year’s bill are Gnarls Barkley, the Black Keys, Broken Social Scene, G. Love & Special Sauce, Blues Traveler and Mates of State.

Quite a few of the other acts — including many of the most promising — have earlier performed at Chicago’s two independently produced music festivals, Pitchfork and Intonation. These include Bloc Party, Cat Power, Stephen Malkmus, Girl Talk, Kid Sister, Office, the Cool Kids, Battles, the Go! Team, Jamie Lidell and Grizzly Bear.”

  1. lol ryan. If that wasn’t a joke that’s completely improbable.

  2. haha i agree with mike’s initial lineup. it seems strangely familiar…

  3. Fri - NIN and Racounters
    Sat - Rage and Wilco
Sun - Radiohead, Kanye will play before Radiohead.

  4. I’m pretty sure Luke is onto something, because they try to stage opposites against each other during headliners. Many NIN fans are also RATM fans. And RATM wont be up against Kayne, because there is crossover appeal.

also I’m pretty sure NIN is playing somewhere else on Saturday. And they wont be on Sunday.

  5. And for my possibility for Headliners:

Friday: Kanye West and Wilco (Wilco well known, adored by so many. Kanye… super mega media giant; Horrible live)

Saturday: NIN and RATM (Both equally famous. Similar amount of hits, similar type of rock)

Sunday: Radiohead (because for so many years of great music, they and we deserve this close out)

  6. I got the completely opposite feeling when I saw them at Rock the Bells in NYC. They were incredible and had all the energy I hoped. But Rage will headline the main stage because lets face it they were by far the largest draw at coachella and y rock the bells went from selling 20,000 tickets to 60-80,000 sell outs. They make festivals by their devoted fan base. Much much bigger acts than Wilco and Kayne. I hope they put them against kayne so the feild thins out a little.

  7. I don’t know about this I am really torn about your suggestion Luke. I beg for Nathan’s because Kanye at 2006 Lolla was not that great. My whole life I wanted to see Rage Against the Machine, and when I finally did in 2007 at Vegoose… I was really underwhelmed. They did a good job, don’t get me wrong, but it was missing something. I felt like the youthful pent up aggression and heavy love for them had possibly passed, and that perhaps they felt the same way. It was definitely lacking an element of uniqueness and crowd connectivity. It felt like “making another paycheck”.

Anyways, sorry about the rant of RATM. Would love to see what NIN does live, and… well… Everyone on this site knows my admiration and desire to see Radiohead. We will have to see.

  8. Friday Nine Inch Nails and Kayne on the other stage.
Saturday Rage Against The Machine and Wilco on the other stage.
    Sunday Radiohead.
NIN and Rage (espaecially Rage) are main acts for sure and obviously Radiohead is closer.

  9. Nathan, I second Micheal, really like your suggestion. I’m planning on coming this year and just paying for individual day passes. Probably Sat, Sun. I’m sure we will arrange a meet up for the show! Anyone/Everyone down for that? Miss Monday day of work and fly back that day after recuperating.

  10. Nathan, I like your suggestion.

  11. they will easily put kanye on the smaller stage

  12. Radiohead, Rage, Nin and Wilco are worth the price of admission. Of the rest of that list I’m only interested in seeing Battles and BSS.

  13. G-DAMNIT. Wonderful. Just f’in wonderful. Such a good lineup and I bought my Rothbury tickets already.

  14. Chicago will be conflict city August 1-3.

Here’s how I see things shaking out:

    Friday

    AT&T: Kanye West
Bud Light: Rage Against The Machine

    Saturday

    AT&T: Radiohead

    Sunday

    AT&T: NIN
Bud Light: Wilco (A great hometown closer to the festival)

  15. YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  16. Damn.

The only thing that makes me wonder credibility wise is this seems like quite a top heavy lineup. This is usually a very trust worthy source and all… but I mean, we have 4 more than worthy artists that should be on the AT&T stage, Radiohead, NIN, Rage, and Kanye, so which one are they going to stick on the bud light stage?

  17. Well, at this point.. all bets are off. I don’t even think those are the headliners. Here’s what I think will end up happening:

Jesus on Fri, Abraham on Sat, and Moses on Sunday with Radiohead as an opener, performing The Bends

  18. [...] to VH1.com over the weekend, Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell confirmed the lineup appearing in Jim DeRogatis’ story this past Friday. “It doesn’t bother me that much. Why? Because I’m really proud [...]
