Fans eagerly anticipating the upcoming release of Third, Portishead’s suitably titled third release, might be looking in the wrong place. Rather than streaming on MySpace or online, the band will debut the new material via television. Who would have thought such stone age technology could come useful, huh?
Portishead will perform eight tracks from their forthcoming album on Current TV on April 11 – three weeks before the album is released on April 28. The performances from ‘Third’ will be recorded live in the town from which the band took their name, and as such the programme will be titled ‘Portishead In Portishead’.

Not familiar with the station? Don’t have the channel? Well, that’s okay, as the station’s website will be hosting the performance for two months after it’s televised. What a relief, huh?
Third is slated for release on April 28 via Island. Just a few days before that, the band will be headlining Coachella, Saturday April 26th.
