STS9, Umphrey’s to tour

STS9, Umphrey’s to tour

umphreys-showcase.jpgAfter reporting STS9’s plans for a studio album, I later received even better news. The Tribe will be touring, not only with a whole bags worth of new material from their upcoming disc Peaceblaster, but will also be co-headlined by Umphrey’s McGee.

Set to begin in July, the two heavyweight acts are penciled in to mark their territory up and down the eastern and mid-western states, from Chicago to Atlanta. There are many reasons to get excited about this. My first thought is what the performance of Umphrey’s will be like. No offence to the Sector 9 boys, but every Umphrey’s experience for me has just blown my brains to fertilizer. Judging on the past performances I’ve attended, it seems that Umphrey’s can adjust their music to fit along with the band they happen to be playing with, as well as affixating the right mood to the crowd.

You may not be a fan of such trancy, electronic spreads, but I can guarantee anyone and everyone that this show will most likely destroy any reproductive organs you might have (don’t take my literally, folks). Though Sector Nine will mainly stick to their usual dance repertoire, you could expect a nice roller coaster ride with Umphrey’s boys; one minute you might be bangin’ your head to a progressive Zappa-ish guitar shred, and before your mind regains composure, you’ll find yourself dancing like the floor is on fire to a pulse tightening, electro-rock song.

There could be surprises up ahead too. Knowing Umphrey’s and their reputation for including guests and collaborating with their good friends, The Disco Biscuits, I would be thoroughly pissed off if the two bands didn’t collaborate and jam on stage. So far, Sector Nine is one of the few bands who haven’t been involved with collaborating alongside or doing improved jams with other bands; save for a few DJ’s such as Richard Devine.

I can’t stress enough what an amazing tour this is going to be. Since I can remember, I have always wanted to see these two bands tour together and I would love to go on and on about all the music I have seen of them in the past. But I think I’ll save that for the article after I attend—hopefully. The only thing that could make this more incredible for me, would be to add the Biscuits.

But for now, this’ll do.
