It’s official: Prince added to Coachella
A couple of weeks ago, we ran the story that Prince would be playing Coachella 2008, though at the time, several other reports disputed the news, adding doubts to the confirmation. However, today, Coachella put in end to the speculation, and officially announced the addition of the music legend.
Prince has joined this year’s line-up for the ninth COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, CA (Friday, April 25, Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27) as the headliner for the second night of the critically acclaimed festival.
This is huge news and should undoubtedly add to the excitement of what many Coachella-goers have considered a weaker than usual lineup for this year. The eclectic rocker will play on Saturday night, filling in the slot that was supposedly Portishead’s.

As Mike noted, this is certainly huge news for Coachella 2008 as a whole. I wonder which of the scenarios I previously mentioned went down. Whatever was the case, the addition of Prince certainly gives Coachella one of the best headliners, and one of the most unique ones at that. In my mind, I alway knew Coachella wouldn’t be upstaged. Regardless if you feel Lollapalooza or Sasquatch! still offers a better lineup, it’s no longer fair to state that Coachella’s lineup is a disappointment…

Wow, Portishead, Kraftwerk, AND Prince? interesting. I wonder who will play first/middle/last.
Portishead was a really weak Saturday headliner. I don’t think we should be surprised that this happened.
