Nelson Mandela is having a music festival
Nelson Mandela, the man who brought freedom to South Africa in the 1990s, is hosting a music festival this summer. Well, many not a music festival, but a one-day music celebration, set to take place on June 27 in London’s Hyde Park, will be part of the former President’s gigantic 90th Birthday party.
The event, which will be hosted by Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith, today announced a few of the acts
who will be performing, and to say the initial lineup is quite impressive would probably an understatement…
Eminem will play Nelson Mandela’s birthday party in London this summer, according to reports.
The hip hop superstar, who has remained out of the pop public eye in recent years, is set for a high-profile comeback.
He joins a line-up that already includes Razorlight, Stevie Wonder, Annie Lennox and Keane, to mark the South African president’s 90th year.
The gig is being organised by Queen guitarist Brian May, who looks to have pulled off quite a coup by getting the controversial rapper out of semi-retirement.
This will be Eminem’s first public performance in over three years. The Detroit native currently plans on releasing a new album before the end of the year.
Drowned in Sound notes that U2, the Sprice Girls, and Paul McCartney are also rumored to be playing.
