The Roots have a busy summer ahead
The hardest working act in hip-hop isn’t making things any easier for themselves this summer. In addition to playing a number of solo shows and festivals stints (including their very own Roots Picnic) in the upcoming months, The Roots will be supporting Erykah Badu on twenty-four dates for her tour. Add this with their active campaigning for Presidential candidate Barack Obama in Philadelphia and a recently announced collaboration with Rik Cordero to produce music videos for ten of the twelve tracks on their forthcoming album Rising Down, and this summer will certainly already busy for the hip-hop legends.
And that is not all. While, The Roots have been together for twenty-one years and have acquired a pretty well-established audience, they haven’t really been awarded the mainstream success they deserve. That could all change if they receive the “Colbert Bump” after they perform on The Colbert Report for the shows coverage of the Philadelphia primary on April 15.
