Deerhunter play secret show, prep new album
Deerhunter played a “surprise show” at the Market Hotel in New York City last night. The show, announced on Monday via their blog, marks one of the band’s first public appearances since their announced hiatus.
This “secret show” was about as ridiculously New York/Burg “cool” as it gets–it was announced only last Friday and tickets were only available for purchase (cash only) from the Cinders art gallery in Williamsburg. Umm. Yeah. Best of all, as it was a “secret show”, this meant that not only was it announced late and to little fanfare, but, best of all, the venue was to be a secret as well–we were asked to leave our email addresses at Cinders so the location and time of the show could be sent to us the night of the show via cryptic Todd P message.
This of course, all comes after the band began recording the followup to Cryptograms at Rare Book Studios in Brooklyn. Entitled Microcastle, the album will be released around Halloween.
“We’ve been writing our new record for the past few days… Well, the songs are already written, we’re just teaching them to each other now,” Cox told Exclaim! on Tuesday (February 12). “And we’re not using any effects, so far. We actually don’t use any of that stuff anymore, believe it or not. We might use some on the record but in the rehearsals we’ve just been plugging the guitars straight into the amps.”

Josh Fauver is the bassplayer for Deerhunter, he has never quit the band. Colin Mee played 2nd guitar and infamously quit the band from August to October 2007 because he wasnt interested in writing songs for the band. He appears to have not recorded with the band and he may have quit again but no word has been made from the Deerhunter camp.
