Check Out: The new WNEW
New York’s WNEW, one of the nation’s most legendary and influential radio stations ever, is back. Thanks to the glories of technological innovations, the rock station, known for helping launch the career of Bruce Springsteen and hosting John Lennon as a guest DJ, is again live and on air. Though a few things are different…
WNEW-FM, the New York station that pioneered free-form rock radio, is coming back — sort of. CBS Radio, which owns WNEW and its former frequency in the New York region, 102.7, will begin broadcasting a high-definition signal and Internet stream on Monday based on the station’s rock format, the company announced. The HD signal (102.7 HD 2) — high-quality, digital audio broadcast alongside the regular radio signal — and the streaming audio version, on wnew.com, will play a mix of classic 1960s and ’70s music and current rock songs, as well as historic concerts and interviews from its archives, but will not have disc jockeys. Instead, CBS says, listeners will be able to contribute through wnew.com and last.fm, a social-networking Web site owned by the CBS Corporation.
Accompanying the relaunch, is the WNEW’s new music blog, which will feature news, reviews, and classic interviews among other things. I’m proud to say that I’m currently taking part in the venture as a correspondent so please stop by and say hello…
