Check Out: Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band
With the announcement of this year’s Austin City Limits lineup came the revelation for many, including myself, that Conor Oberst is back with another new side project. Hypeful recently did a great write-up about the newly formed Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, which made their debut last December at the 400 Bar in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Composed of Oberst, Nik Freitas, and Rilo Kiley drummer Jason Boesel, the group offers a dynamic and rich Neil Young-esque folk sound, a bit reminiscent of Bright Eyes’ most recent work in 2007’s Cassadaga.
The group has yet to announce plans for an album, though there are rumors that tracks have already been recorded. Aside from this year’s ACL, the band is currently scheduled to make European apperances at Reading and Leeds and Electric Picnic.
Aside from Bright Eyes, The Mystic Valley Band is the latest in a long line of Oberst related projects, which have included the Desaparecidos, Commander Venus, and Park Ave.

Bright Eyes - “Saturday as Usual”

I absolutely LOVE this band
they are so great! Conor’s skills as a musician have greatly improved since the days of early Bright Eyes.
Days spent staring into bliss, whilst being audibly aroused has now reached a pinacle. So pleased that there is a new flavor to enjoy and hopefully new shows to see.
