Coachella has begun, Portishead don’t like Prince
The 2008 edition of Coachella has officially begun and even if you aren’t in Indio, California this weekend, you can still watch some of the festivities online. Among those scheduled to perform on Friday include The Raconteurs, Vampire Weekend, The National, Aphex Twin, The Breeders, and of course,…Mr. Jack Johnson.
Even though Portishead won’t be performing until Saturday, they are already making headlines after their recent comments regarding the festival’s addition of Prince.
“It was gonna be us and Kraftwerk, which was amazing for us to play with Kraftwerk,” Barrow began.
”Then I knew the tickets hadn’t been selling well for the concert, so they put Prince in.
“Prince is gonna turn up with a forty person entourage,” continued the Portishead man. “With the sound men not allowing us to sound check, then you end up with this horrible situation where you’re playing to a shed load of Americans without a sound check”.

I think it is a credible concern, that was their first big comeback show in the US, and I doubt they’d want it to sound like shit. However I do think that he could have said that shit to the folk running coachella.
Coachella was one of the strongest lineups of all of the festivals, you might not think that now, but visit it again next year. The ticket sales were surely hurt by the over-saturation of US festivals this year, as documented well on this website.
I’m really interested how bonnaroo tix are doing. The lineup is a mess this year. I’m a little dissapointed, because last year was so good, and was easily the best experience I’ve had at any festivals(I’ve also attended coachella, sxsw, lolla).
Screw Portishead. If they were half as big as Prince they wouldn’t be complaining!
