The Police’s mystery announcement

Today, hundreds of fans dusted off their magnifying glasses and started playing Sherlock Homes, in hopes of figuring out the secret mystery The Police will unveil this Tuesday. It allthe-police-touring-20081.jpg started when the band’s official site updated with the message: “PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR A VERY SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ON TUESDAY…” Although it’s anyone’s guess at this point, there are some very good ideas being tossed around.

Some suggest an exclusive fan club concert that would finish the tour (and the band’s legacy), though others are more realistically supporting the idea of a concert in Central Park, and possible for free. The latter might be right…

Ironically, on Tuesday Sting and The Police — separate from the Foundation — are set to make a stunning presentation to Mayor Michael Bloomberg regarding New York City and the environment. The Police have been exploring a way to make an environmental gift for months.

Sting’s always been known for his causes, so the idea isn’t too far out of reach. Though I’m pretty sure a free concert in Central Park, involving The Police no less, would shut down New York City for a week. Fact or fiction? We’ll have to see what Tuesday brings.

Currently, The Police are on their final leg of the internationally successful reunion tour that started last year and presumably ends this August at Jones Beach, NY. Stick around this weekend CoS readers, as we’ll bring you coverage of Chicago’s Saturday date.
