The Police set final show; fundraiser

Tears are expected to fall by the end of the summer, as millions of fans will put away their board shorts, throw off their sandals, and tuck their ol’ tour shirts back in the drawer. The Police have officially announced they will hold their final show in New York City. the_police_live_2.jpgBut wait, don’t run for that box of Kleenex just yet. This is a positive thing! It’s going to be a fund raiser. Yes, The Police are ready to plant some trees. Does that make any sense to you? Let’s have the news do the talking…

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg joined Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland of The Police to announce that the band’s final concert will be in New York City and their commitment to MillionTreesNYC, the City’s initiative to plant one million trees by the year 2017. MillionTreesNYC is a component of PlaNYC, the Mayor’s plan to make the City more sustainable and reduce its carbon footprint 30 percent by 2030. The Police pledged $1 million to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City in support of MillionTreesNYC. This donation, matched by the City, will provide $2 million to help launch the reforestation component of MillionTreesNYC which will plant 10,000 trees and reforest 2,000 acres of parkland across the five boroughs. Reforestation efforts improve air and water quality, reduce greenhouse gases and lower energy costs.

Tickets for the final show will be both brutal and sickening to get a hold of, so be prepared to use your boomstick if you plan on attending. Why? They will only be available via Thirteen/WNET. So expect the fluff to be in attendance, meaning those that have at least $500,000 in their bank account.

Me? I’ll try my best to make it. If not, I’ll just grab a bottle of Jack and hope to God it’s being streamed somewhere. My tears will keep me warm.

Anyhow, speaking of the blonde trio, stay tuned this weekend for upcoming coverage of the Chicago date. Saturday can’t come sooner for this Police fan.

  1. and I didn’t mean 500,000..i see you stated bank accounts not price obviously..

  2. Extremely expensive for trees. The Police have made so much money on the tour…I’m not saying this isn’t a great thing, but lets not act like they are doing anything immense or revolutionary.Tickets are a ridiculous amount of money, and the police have had ticket prices through the roof on all stops of their tour. They are matching $1 million, and I guarantee they still profit off of it.

What about this one band called Dispatch who sold out 3 nights of MSG and gave 100% of proceeds, yes 100% apparel and tickets, to the Zimbabwe in the hopes of making progress their and helping the lives of its citizens. On top of that they made all tickets the same price and extremely reasonable (less<50; let alone 500,000). That’s all heart, no alternative motives at all (not saying the police necessarily have one). PATCH

  3. at lots of money to see a live band and plant some trees. i’ll say this there heart is good but i’ll be somewhere in or just outside the park listening for free and enjoying a big sloppy pretzel. nothing like the police and a pretzel
