They Be Jammin’ at the Zoo

Lions and tigers and bears all will have a decent summer of rock n’ roll, being that their own habitat will serve as center stage for acts Blondie (6/27), Fastball, Blind Melon (7/25), and Soul Asylum (8/22). Chicago’s own Lincoln Park Zoo, the nation’s largest free public zoo, is holding a series of lil’ festivals to benefit the wildlife. Talk about a surreal concert experience, huh? Not only are the performances held at the zoo, but in the main mall, which is surrounded by lions, cheetahs… and seals!

93XRT is proud to be part of one of the city’s most popular and unique summer concert series; Lincoln Park Zoo’s “Jammin’ At The Zoo.” This three concert series benefits the animals and conservation programs at Lincoln Park Zoo.

The performances are held outside, in the natural amphitheater area on the south lawn, which comfortably accommodates 4,000 people. The series kicks-off in June followed by monthly shows in July and August.

It’s unfortunate. I’ll be at The Police concert when Blind Melon comes through, but I’ll definitely be hitting up Soul Asylum. Something about a series of concerts in my own backyard excites me. Anyhow, Chicagoans, get over to the zoo sometime next month and grab your tickets. If anything, Blondie might be fun, right?

  1. That’s awesome. Doesn’t XRT throw the Block Party every year too? I love that station. I didn’t know they did this, I’m definitely going to look into Blind Melon.
