Velvet Revolver out; Chickenfoot in as new supergroup

Just when it seemed the supergroup trend began cooling off, Blabbermouth and The Pulse Of Radio both reported this morning that Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith is in talks to form a new supergroup called Chickenfoot. While the Peppers amicably decided to take a year hiatus, Smith has other interests in regards to playing music. The current band consists of ex-Van Halen alumni, frontman Sammy Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony as well as guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani. The quartet is slated to begin recordings sometime this summer. Hagar responded to the reports regarding Chickenfoot with quite a large amount of confidence:

“We’ve written eight, nine songs…When people hear the music, it’s LED ZEPPELIN. It’s as good as that. I know that’s a mighty bold statement…We could rival ZEP.”

Can Sammy Hagar really drive fifty-five? We shall see at the tail end of the summer. Until then, Hagar will still be pushing his Cabo Wabo tequila onto the thirsty crowds waiting for more.

  • It is pretty funny. Page shuld just put his guitar at Satch’s feet ,bow to him and say “Thank you for making me realize what a real guitarist sounds like”.
