Festival Outlook (Part XIV)
For whatever reason, it has been a hectic week in terms of festival news. In fact, we’re not even sure we caught everything. In an effort to catch our breaths and make sure you didn’t miss anything, how about a nice post edition of Consequence of Sound’s Festival Outlook.
Rothbury Music Festival: Set to kick off in just about a month, the inaugural edition of Rothbury added more spice to their lineup thanks to the addition of Trey Anastasio, of course, resulting in a frenzy of hopeful Phish reunion talk. Other recent additions include Underground Orchestra and 311/Snoop Dogg tour mates’ Ficition Plane.
Bumbershoot: The Washington music festival made another round of additions this week. Among the new names include T.I., Keyshia Cole, Battles, Minus the Bear, Sondre Leche, and The Whigs. Zach Galifianakis, Doug Benson, and Aziz Ansari are among the comedians who make up the partially revealed comedy lineup. However, still no news on the Prince/Rage Against the Machine rumors.
Street Scene: Though no lineup has been announced, we are starting to get a few more independent artists confirmations. Both Cat Power and The New Pornograpers will be appearing in downtown San Diego, California between September 19 and 20.
Newport Folk Festival: Trey Anastasio, Richie Havens and Son Volt are among the new additions joining the likes of an already strong lineup for this year’s edition of the Rhode Island folk festival, set to go down between August 1 and 3.
Virgin Festival Toronto: The Toronto edition of Virgin’s Canadian music festivals, which already featured the Foo Fighters and Oasis, got a bit stronger thanks to the additions of Robyn, The Fratellis, The Kooks, Against Me!, and Silversun Pickups among others.
Glastonbury Festival: Our friends across the see recently saw a number of additions to the already announced lineup. Amy Winehouse will fill the “special guest” slot on the Pyramid Stage on Saturday, while the BBC will present the “Introducing Stage” featuring a number of up-and-coming artists.
U.S. Download Festivals: After posting about the initial lineup for the three versions of the U.S. Download Festival last week, the full lineups have since been revealed. While Philadelphia does seem to blow the other two out of the water thanks to The Killers, Iggy, and Atmosphere, LA does feature M83, while San Fransisco has Cut Copy.
As always, you can keep track of all the latest news and rumors at our main Festival Outlook page.
