Okkervil River reveal The Stand Ins

Okkervil River reveal The Stand Ins

Although it’s been less than a year since they’ve released the brilliant The Stage Names, Okkervil River is ready for its follow up, or should I say, “it’s other half.” Arriving on September 9 on Jagjaguwar Records, The Stand Ins (see album artwork below) will represent the second disc of what lead singer Will Scheff is calling Okkervil’s double album. Of course, you know this because we reported it last week, but how about some more details, eh?

Of the process Will Sheff explains, “We had so many songs we were excited about that we briefly threw around the idea of just putting out a double record. Instead, we decided to take a group of songs that fit with each other and turn that into “The Stage Names”, setting the rest aside for a future release, a Stage Name”s sequel. “The Stand Ins” is that sequel, part two of a staggered double album….”The Stand Ins” picks up exactly where Part One left off but also delves deeper into the story and theme of “The Stage Names”

Interested to know what the track titles might be? Here ya go!

The Stand Ins tracklist:
01 “The Stand Ins, One”
02 “Lost Coastlines”
03 “Singer Songwriter”
04 “Starry Stairs”
05 “Blue Tulip”
06 “The Stand Ins, Two”
07 “Pop Lie”
08 “On Tour With Zykos”
09 “Calling and Not Calling My Ex”
10 “The Stand Ins, Three”
11 “Bruce Wayne Campbell Interviewed on the Roof of the Chelsea Hotel, 1979″

I gotta say, seeing some of these stories continue will be a treat. I also love that last track, “Bruce Wayne Campbell”! You have to appreciate that pop culture right there. You have to.

How these indie bands manage to promote, write, tour, record, and stay fresh is beyond me. Oh wait, I know… they don’t have actual jobs. Ah, so jealous. As usual, we’ll keep you on the hedge with all the news and updates, but be sure to check out Okkervil River sometime this summer, as they’ll be sporting around the nation in quite the impressive tour. Me? I’ll be front row at Lollapalooza for them come August.
