ACL reveals 2008 schedule
Though this year’s edition of Austin City Limits isn’t set to go down for another four months, the Texas music festival officially released its schedule earlier this morning.
How about a quick breakdown?
Friday, September 26:
Headliners: Manu Chao vs. The Mars Volta - touch match up, but based on personal experience, I’d recommended seing Mr. Chao every opportunity you get.
Highlights: Vampire Weekend, The Swell Season, David Byrne, Jakob Dylan and the Gold Mountain Rebels, Hot Chip
Conflict: Nothing Really Jumps out. Perhaps the prospects of leaving Mates of State 15 minutes early to see Jenny Lewis will be troubling?
Saturday, August 27:
Headliners: Beck vs. Robert Plant and Alison Krauss - This one is tough. Though Beck is Beck, and will a new album coming out, it might be an especially great performance.
Highlights: Iron & Wine, Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, John Fogerty, MGMT, Jamie Lidell, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings
Conflict: Easy. Conor vs. Fogerty. Sharon Jones vs. Drive-By Truckers is another tough one.
Sunday, August 28:
Headliners: Foo Fighters; The Raconteurs vs. Gnarls Barkley - Of course, Dave Grohl and company will play unopposed. The Raconteurs vs. Gnarls Barkley is another tough conflict, but based on the recent reviews, it seems like Jack and his band have been putting on some unbelievable shows.
Highlights: Neko Case, Okkervil River, Against Me!, The Kills, Blues Traveler, Gillian Welch
Conflict: Okkervil River vs. Blues Traveler, Stars vs. Against Me!, Neko Case vs. Silversun Pickups? If you have an oddball music taste like me, Sunday is going to offer some challenges.

Don’t let the Conor solo name fool you. His new stuff is really good.
Surprisingly, not a lot of conflicts. The biggest one for me is SSPU vs. Neko.
Fogerty vs. Conor would be a conflict if we were talking Bright Eyes. But it’s not, so I’ll opt for Fogerty. Thankfully, he’s been playing a lot of CCR songs lately.
