Minitek Festival 2008
While details are still a bit cloudy, it appears New York City will serve as host to yet another summer music festival.
The Minitek Festival, put on by the folks behind New York’s Minimoo, will run between September 12 and 14 in the Big Apple. Check out the initial lineup below…

As the poster notes, tickets will go on sale begining June 2.
We’ll have more as it comes…

Me and my friend bought two tickets for last night’s Minitek event (Friday 12th). After being in line for more than 2 hours, police and bouncers told people to leave and we did not manage to get in.
I would say that at least a hundred of people, if nor more were quite abruptly told to leave, and in a very unpleasant way, while no one from the organization showed up at least to explain what was happening and how we could recover our tickets. They just yelled us to leave, as if we were committing some kind of obscure crime, this even if we had the tickets, and therefore the right to use it…
I had been waiting so long for such an event but unfortunately due to lack of communication and staff, last night was a DISASTER.
My friend and I, having purchased VIP weekend passes, were both completely ignored at the door by security. Our prepaid tickets seemed to be of no value as security would simply say, “doesn’t matter what you paid for, we are at full capacity, we are not allowing anyone in!”
I later found out from a friend who actually made it in that the venue was as big as half a Manhattan block and it was empty, he said.
This fiasco would have been less frustrating if there was a Minitek Representative outside to address the crowd with the progress of the night. We could have avoided standing in the rain for 2 plus hours only to find in the end, that no one was going to be let in.
We hope to get refunds!
This is the WORST music festival I have ever been to in Manhattan. My friends and I bought our $200 passes (!!) and when we tried to go to the first night of the festival, after waiting in line for TWO hours, we were told that they were filled to capacity at 12:15am. However, a friend who was inside told us it was 90% EMPTY! They refused people to get in only because they were so anti-organized!!!
Minitek has stolen thousands of dollars from people all over the city, country, and the world. I was in line with people who had come from Germany, Denmark, and Sweden, just to name a few countries… and none of us got in.
Organizers shouldn’t promise what they can’t produce.
mini-shite
total blowout by peeps that think they single handedly brought techno back to nyc
disgraceful behaviour to all that work so hard on techno in this city
anon 2:31 That larger scale is unprecedented and should be noted. This is a dyi operation done out of desperation for the people of new york. Minimoo came around at a time when there was literally nothing going on in new york in terms cutting edge electronica. They almost single handedly revived the new york techno scene in new york and everyone knows it. This festival is a culmination of their efforts. Also, half that bill is filled w/ artists that are making their nyc debut or artists that they originally brought over to play before already. Minimoo you’ve come a long way baby…
i have just received a newsletter saying that they will have another presale on monday! The tickets are really worth it for 2 days and 2 nights of partying. lucky bastards who got their tix for 40…whatever 60$ is well worth it.
I see nothing totally new here, but a larger scale event …
Many if not all headliners have already played in NYC …
@ the robots for instance …
oh and before i forget: thank god we’re getting a quality festival in new york! finally someone does it! minitek will be the bomb!!! i heard that tickets are going online today. i’m counting hours to get mine.

hey alex, it’s not done by montreal’s mutek people. it’s done by the minimoo people from new york, you can tell by the font and most importantly the style of the artwork. mutek always looks the same in all countries they do it in and totally different from minitek’s look. just came from mutek and even though it had its moments, very happy that our minitek won’t be organised by the mutek people. a little too stiff their montreal affair…. very much the opposite of what we can expect here! ; )
