Edmonton Folk Fest reveals 2008 lineup

Is it just me or is Canada really begining to embrace its music festivals? Between the number of new ones set  to debut in the coming weeks and the long-time old favorites once again returning for another edition, our friends up north have quite a busy summer to look forward.

Time to add yet another one to the docket. The 29th annual Edmonton Folk Festival will take place between August 7 and 10 at Gallagher Park in downtown Edmonton, and based on the recently revealed lineup, it promises to offer a great time thanks to a diverse, yet extremely talented collection of musicians.

Broken Social Scene, Jakob Dylan and the Gold Mountain Rebels, Cat Power, Aimee Mann, Chris Issak, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Martha Wainwright, Abigail Washburn and the
Sparrow Quartet feat. Bela Fleck
, Ron Sexsmith, Brett Dennen, Ryan Shaw, The Duhks, Serena Ryder, Colin Hay, Bill Bourne & Madagascar Slim, Jonny Lang, Joan Osborne, The Sadies, Hawksley Workman, Martyn Joseph, Maria Dunn, Kyrie Kristmanson, Little Miss Higgins, Romi Mayes

Click here to check out the full lineup, one which festival producer Terry Wickham calls “an Edmonton lineup with a little twist…I think we have more balance this year between the old and the new. There’s a really strong crop of new headliners. … We are going out to make sure the under-21s are represented in the lineup.”

Tickets are now on sale via the festival’s website.

Thanks to Dave for the tip…
