Lollapalooza releases schedule, single day tickets
Well, the moment we’ve all been waiting for has come: the schedule for this summer’s big bash. This morning, Lollapalooza’s official site released the three day layout (in addition to $80 single day tickets) and so far it’s looking very nice. There’s a few conflicts I see so far (The Raconteurs v. Stephen Malkmus, Okkervil vs. Lidell) that’ll likely make me grit my teeth come August, but for now, I’m a bit satisfied. In all honesty, there’s no way to avoid the pitfalls of a schedule, we just have to make the best of it, really. So, let’s get crackin’ on those custom schedules and make the most of this August weekend.
Oh, by the way, is anyone ecstatic that Wilco is playing opposite of Rage? I’ll be seeing you, Mr. Jeff Tweedy!

As with any festival, there will be conflicts. But this year is especially full of them for me.
The last 3 hours of Friday are a mess (Bloc Party, Racs, Malkmus, CSS, Cool Kids, Cadence Weapon)
Saturday from 4:15 on is conflict city.
Sunday: Black Kids vs. Chromeo; Gnarls/Girl Talk/L&R; Ronson vs. The National
Ace, are you gonna be at Wilco or Rage?
Rage
For what it’s worth, Rage have one of the best live shows ever, and Wilco was one of the most disapointing shows I have ever seen.
Sunday is tough for me.
Gnarls Barley, Girl Talk, The National, and Kanye
Ugh. I’ll be sprinting by then.
Alex, you won’t be sprinting. You’ll be jogging.
Zatzbatz, I went to Wilco last February and it might have been the fact that their residency shows just kicked ass, but it was easily one of the greatest shows I’ve ever attended. And Rage? I would have died to see them once… in high school, when that music mattered to me.
Now? I’d rather skip on the broken bones or cardiac arrest. Haha. But lemme know how “Killing In The Name Of” is.
Priorities people. Who on earth would really rather see Wilco over Rage at this point? Nobody. That way, there is no conflict. Softies will go and appreciate Wilco as the hometowners taht will draw even in the face of a Rage explosion. Kanye is the same scenerio on the last day, although he’s dangerously close to burning up his fanbase. But he’ll draw on the last day a niche crowd, while NIN blows away all the music lovers. i think this has a nice balance, but priorities are huge peeps.
A few brutal conflicts there. Other times there is nothing I’d be excited to see. Why do the headliners start to early at Lolla? 8:00 or 8:30? That seems awfully early.
Who on earth would really rather see Wilco over Rage at this point? Nobody.>>>
I would. Rage doesn’t interest me. I still stand my statement that they’re a high school fad. Their sound is great, their live performance is phenomenal probably, but I already tried to see them once (Beastie Boys and Rage Tour that was canceled) and last year I heard people broke bones and fainted during the show… not worth it, in my book. Wilco, on the other hand? Consistently impress me with shows and set lists, and if they’re even a dabble of what they were in February here, I’m going to enjoy it immensely.
The problem I see with this schedule (bear in mind I wrote this article at the crack of dawn, in my bed, with sleepy eyes) is that there’s a lot of space where these smaller conflicts could have been resolved. But whatever, I’m fine with choosing. The only conflict that still burns was in 2006 between Matisyahu and The Shins. Ouch.
True enough. I’m possibly just biased cause I’ve never seen Rage, happy to see them back, and am pretty excited about the possibilities. Not that big of a Wilco fan either, which is probably weird seeing as I’ve live in Chitown my whole life nearly. I like a tight, packed, energized crowd though that is ready to throw down the energy to fuel the band onstage. I think it’ll be sweet. Especially on weeeeeed man!
Girl Talk vs. Gnarls hurt me pretty badly.
I’ll also have to miss CSS and Bloc for Rac’s, but luckily theres the after show saturday night where I can see both!
Gaah National vs Gnarl and a good spot for kayne. Damn
The Matisyahu comment is funny to me, because he has been at every festival I have ever gone to. I’m serious. Every single one.
And my 2 cents, Girl Talk > Gnarls, although Gnarls is a lot of fun.
Back in 2006 (and even now), I couldn’t afford to go to every festival.
I know that I’ll not be able to catch this concert - too far away, and not enough ‘dinero’ for jack.
Honestly, though - I’d have a bit of trouble deciding between the Radiohead date, or the Nine Inch Nails date.
I’ve seen them both, and believe me when I say nothing compares to the With Teeth tour or Radiohead’s live performances around the release of Thom Yorke’s ‘The Eraser’.
Truly mind-blowing.
