NIN’s “The Slip” physical release

NIN’s “The Slip” physical release

Come next month, NIN fans will finally be able to hold their own physical copy of The Slip on July 22nd. Much like the elaborate physical release of Ghosts I-IV, which sold out instantaneously, The Slip will come with a load of goodies that should appease the ever growing fan base. And who said Mr. Reznor was a reclusive grump?

In the United States, Canada and parts of Japan, the two-disc set, distributed by RED, is limited to 200,000 individually numbered copies in digipak form. It will include a bonus DVD of Nine Inch Nails performing material from “The Slip” during rehearsals, as well as a 24-page booklet and stickers.

“The Slip” will also be available on vinyl August 5 in the United States and Canada and a day before internationally; this incarnation will not be limited.

Originally a digital release (and free), NIN offered the album online for download via their official site, which is an alternative they plan to keep. This new service is becoming a lucrative financial investment for the industrial rock guru, who is finding success both critically and commercially with the last two releases. If this trend continues, the “surprise” online release will become the norm, with the haul to the record store being a thing of the past. Pretty scary.

If you haven’t heard it, The Slip is a pretty solid collection of songs, bringing back the ol’ swing of raw, crunching guitars and thumping noise that made Pretty Hate Machine the staple rock album of the ’90s. I mean, we dig it.

The next few months should pull Reznor from the studio for now, as he’s taking the band out on tour, including stops at Lollapalooza and Virgin Festival. For more information, don’t hesitate to check out our new writer, David Buchanan’s, extensive outlook for NIN and their Zero Hour plan.
