Listen: The Curse of Company

Listen: The Curse of Company

When people hear about members of various bands coming together, they likely get the sneaking suspicion of Audioslave or Velvet Revolver being involved.

However, when the Australian outback produced the newly formed The Curse Of Company, laden with the sounds of Dappled Cities’ Dave Rennick, The Red Sun Band’s Sarah Kelly, and Jack Ladder’s Tim Rogers, its certainly hard to deny the quality of this overseas indie supergroup.

No Midnight Oil references, here - they certainly hold their own.

Be that as it may, echoes of the vinyl record age come through in all-consuming (and very pleasing) nostalgia, with fragments of distorted blues guitar and the eclecticism of (dare I say) Robert Plant as the music of their debut effort, Leo Magnets joins a gang, has the taste of old blended into well-sculpted production.

Another fine quality of the band and their recently released album is its unique backstory, which can be explored (for the time being) on their primary website. Once there, the visitor can physically sift through flash-produced photography.  Deciphering specific aspects of it garners access to real treats for one so inclined to try.

However, perhaps the most appealing of  The Curse Of Company is their storytelling technique (again, very much Plant). One can easily imagine being at a live show, and hearing them play with the gentle posture of an old man with tales to speak of.

After all, a band like this has mastered evoking such a feeling.
