Pearl Jam trades radios for ringtones
Every time Pearl Jam is mentioned in a sentence, two things come to mind:
The “Jeremy” music video and the bootleg discs.
Since their official program started in 2000, the Mother Love Bone reincarnation has spawned album after album of live material. Songs very familiar to the children of grunge appear in often nonsequential order, and almost always performed differently. It’s even been said that Eddie shouts out numbers during shows to authenticate each recording.
So, with all of the digital marketing madness going on, where is PJ? The answer is simple - press POUND for Pearl Jam. The unconventional conventionalists, who once strangled Ticketmaster, are heading in a new direction, yet again.
High-quality digital downloads and burn-to-order CDs of the entire show will be available following each show date exclusively via the Ten Club, at www.pearljam.com. In addition, mobile bootlegs of three live tracks per show will be released following the show on V CAST Music phones and at www.pearljamconcerts.com through Verizon Wireless.
Aside from catering to the technologically savvy teenage demographic, what else is going on with Pearl Jam?
It’s already been revealed that these ‘angsty’ lean mainstays have been in the studio working the kinks out of their 9th studio album (and as always I am thrilled to hear that). They rocked Bonnaroo, and they’ve made the jump to 3.5 million pubescent Blackberry owners because - as Weird Al said - they’re “in love with an Eddie Vedder”.
I guess the only thing left to do is the “Evolution” (crickets chirping).
The price for Digital Downloads will be $9.99 (MP3), physical-copy Made-to-Order CDs will be priced at $19.99, and as for the mobile send-off…
Each stop of the tour, Pearl Jam will provide three (3) stand-out tracks per concert mixed in real-time and released via Verizon Wireless’ V CAST Music service or www.pearljamconcerts.com. Following each show, Verizon Wireless will offer fans one (1) full-length track as a free mobile bootlegs download with two (2) additional tracks available for purchase. All three tracks will also be available for purchase as ringtones and ringback tones.
Let’s hear it for the boys - and don’t forget to set that alarm for work after your upcoming Pearl Jam concert. The 2008 tour kicked off in West Palm Beach June 11th, and will end on June 30th in Boston, Massachusetts.
