Rage Against The Machine planning political gig crashes?

Ah, Rage Against The Machine. What seems to be a fresh breath again from California’s politically charged quartet, the band, fresh off a seven year hiatus, announced today via Blabbermouth that the band hasn’t ruled out giving more performances this year aside from the coveted Lollapalooza concert on August 2nd. Guitarist Tom Morello hinted at the possibility of performing at political conventions sometime this year:

“There is the possibility that we will be playing at the demonstrations surrounding the Presidential conventions. The Democrats are in Denver, the Republicans are in Minneapolis. But we’re still looking into that.”

The Democratic convention is scheduled for August 25 through August 28 in Denver, while the Republicans will descend on Minneapolis from September 1 to September 4.

Could this be the start of something cajunga for Rage? Rumors are persisting that the band will follow up with a new album since the release of 2000’s Renegades, but so far nothing is certain. Click on that dial and watch these bulls go on parade!

I’d like more than anything to hear a DAMN GOOD album.

  3. Idk David seven years of pnt up Zack De La Rocha and withou a proper way to vent his guitar I have a feeling that a new album by the will be better than the orginal. Call it a hunch I guess.

  4. The days of their self-titled rock ‘em rampage, the beautifully simplistic ‘Killing In The Name Of…’, and the Michael Moore video shoot are long gone.

This is a sad fact that I, as a fan, have grown to acknowledge.

However, though I doubt a new album by RATM could hold its own in the midst of so many indie rock bands these days (some of whom were inspired by this very band), I must say this:

Anytime Rage crashes a party, you best believe it will be worth seeing.

Rock on, you militant political rock stars, you!
