The Shins start to think about fourth album
The Shins are at least starting to think about the follow up to 2007’s Wincing the Night Away, based on their recent decision to look beyond life under Sub Pop Records. Unlike Oasis, the Portland, Oregon outfit is preparing to leave its long-time label for the a possible eventual self-release of its fourth full-length effort.
The Shins are likely to self-release their fourth studio album through frontman James Mercer’s Aural Apothecary label, Billboard can reveal.
The Shins are seeking a deal that would allow them to own their masters, “and, in addition to the marketing tools we have at our own disposal, team up with a label partner that will assist with additional marketing, radio, and various costs,” [Ian] Montone reports.
Of course, nothing is official, but based on the fact, as Stereogum pointed out, that the Shins are missing from the upcoming Sub Pop Festival, it certainly appears as if something is in the works…
The Shins currently don’t have any scheduled dates, perhaps because they’re also still in awe over their recent appearance on Yo Gabba Gabba!
